Aluminum free antiperspirant: the key to healthy living
Aluminum is a metal that has been used in antiperspirants for decades. While it does reduce sweating, the FDA has found links between aluminum and breast cancer. This blog post will explore some of these findings as well as how to make your own deodorant with natural ingredients!
We’ll also discuss some easy ways to avoid getting aluminum on your skin by using alternatives like organic cotton pads or unscented bar soap.
Aluminum is the active ingredient in most antiperspirants that helps to reduce sweat. The aluminum ions create an electrochemical barrier on your skin that reduces sweat production by blocking the pores of your glands. This is great for people who are looking for a quick fix for excessive sweating, but it’s important to know what you’re putting on your body before you decide to use this product. Some studies have shown links between aluminum and breast cancer risk, so be sure to research all the risks associated with using antiperspirant before making any decisions.
Ways to make your own aluminum-free deodorant
Despite what you may think, your deodorant isn’t preventing you from sweating. Instead, it works to mask the smell produced when bacteria react to the sweat on your body. This is why aluminum-based compounds are one of the primary ingredients in most conventional stick and spray deodorants. Aluminum-based compounds form a temporary layer over your skin that blocks the bacteria from coming into contact with the sweat on your body, essentially preventing you from smelling.
The content of aluminum in typical deodorants has been linked to neurological toxicity and several other health issues. While the research is still inconclusive, there is enough evidence to suggest that you may want to consider alternatives to conventional deodorants, especially if you are concerned about your health.
Making your own aluminum-free deodorant is a great way to avoid these harmful chemicals and ensure that you are covering your pits in only the safest, most nourishing ingredients. Just be sure to test the deodorant on a small patch of skin first before using it all over. If you experience any irritation or discomfort, discontinue use immediately and switch to another recipe.
